Shadow Angels - Introduction

From the war in heaven, many angels fell. Some fell lower than others, depending on their will. The angels who sinned the highest were granted an eternity in purgatory. Neither heaven nor hell. Alone they wandered through the middle realm, unable to find each other, lost in darkness. Then God said “Let there be light” and there was light. And the fallen angels saw that it was the beginning of the end, because in the brightness of the latest creation, they discovered a flaw in the design of their cage. There was a way out.

The fallen angels watched as moving shapes cast the first shadows, and unheard sounds of mingled mirth and sadness filled the untouched emptiness. The childlike shadows walked and laughed for an eternity, and the fallen angels silently followed, until they came to the edge of purgatory. The fallen angels stopped, but the shadows kept going. The cries of laughter and distress faded away as they jumped like a waterfall of souls into the source of the light. The angels where too scared of the light to follow, but the shadows took them by the hands and led them down with them, crooning soft laughter and sobs as if in parental coercion.

When the news that the fallen angels in purgatory had followed the shadows reached the ears of the angels closest to the divine throne, they sent a whole denomination of angels to capture them. The denomination of Powers, lead by the angel Camael, slaughtered the majority of the fallen angels as they were dragged down by the shadows, but it was too late. The fallen ones entered the virgin world of mankind and made it their home.

The holy host were furious at the shadow people, and appealed their destruction to their creator, but it was useless. On the seventh day, God rested.  Mankind was born.
